Brian grew up in a small town on the far east side of Cleveland where he played Varsity Golf, Baseball and Basketball in high school. He went on to attend Baldwin-Wallace University, in Berea, Ohio, where he attained his Business degree, was Student Body Treasurer, and achieved First Team all Ohio Athletic Conference playing golf.
Because of Brian's High School athletic achievements, and continued success teaching and coaching the game of golf, in 2012 he was inducted into the Perry High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
From the age of fifteen Brian has been working at private clubs as part of the golf staff. After college he went on to be an Assistant Professional at some very prestigious clubs such as Sankaty Head Golf Club on Nantucket Island, Windsor Club in Vero Beach, Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia, The Country Club in Cleveland, and for seven seasons at Canturbury Golf Club in Cleveland as the Director of Instruction. He also went on to be the Head Teaching Professional at one of the largest private clubs in the country, The Ocean Reef Club, for six years. Currently Brian is teaching at Essex Fells Country Club in New Jersey during the summer and Palm Beach Par 3 in Florida in the winter.
While at Sea Island Brian worked with some great teachers such as Jack Lumpkin, Scott Davenport, Tom Ness, Gale Peterson, and Mike LaBauve. During this time Brian also met World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame and PGA of America Hall of Fame Instructor Bob Toski and has spent thousands of hours working with and assisting him during his lessons as an understudy to Bob.
Brian assisted Bob on many occasions teaching Birdie Kim the winter before her Women's US Open victory in 2007 and Ken Duke in the years before his 2013 PGA Tour victory. He has also given lessons to PGA Tour players Kenny Perry and Tom Kite. In the summer of 2012 while teaching at Rumson CC in New Jersey , Brian's student, Brian Gaffney, The Head Professional at Rumson CC, qualified and competed in the US Open and PGA Championship. Then in 2015 Brian was on-site at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straights coaching Brian Gaffney, where he made the cut and finished the Championship as the low PGA Club Professional. He has continued to help Brian Gaffney with his game, including being with him at the 2024 US Sr Open at Newport CC where he made the cut, and during his NJPGA Sr Player of the Year 2025 season.
Brian was the Men's Golf Assistant Coach at the University of Oklahoma during the 2002-2003 season, and the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's teams at Cleveland State University during the 2006-2007 season.
Aside from being an understudy of Bob Toski, Brians teaching has also been shaped by observing and working with many top ranked teaching professionals on many occasions. Some of the teachers include Mike Adams, Todd Anderson, Jason Baile, Mike Bender, Scott Davenport, Bill Davis, Marius Filmalter, Dr. Rick Jensen, Mike LaBauve, James Leitz, Keith Lyford, Jack Lumpkin, Mike Malaska, Rick McCord, Tom Ness, Gale Peterson, James Sieckmann, Mike Shannon, Rick Smith, Mitchell Spearman, Jon Tattersall, and Jerry Tucker. He continues to try to improve as an instructor and person on a continual basis.
Brian is a Class A PGA member, a member of the Certified Golf Coaches Association, AimPoint Express Instructor, TPI, Vision 54, Smart2Move Bioswing Dynamics, and TrackMan certified. Brian also owns and uses in his teaching a TrackMan 4, S2M 3D Force Plates, and SAM PuttLab. Brian was chosen by his peers as the 2014 South Florida PGA Southern Chapter Teacher of the Year, is listed on the Golf Digest Best Teachers in your Sate 2026-27, and is in the Golf Range Association of America Top 100 Growth of the Game Instructors. On the course Brian won the 2011 NOPGA Assistants Championship, 2014 SFPGA Southern Chapter Championship, and the 2020 NJPGA Senior Section Championship. In 2024 he played in the PGA Sr National Championship where he finished in 35th place, qualifying him for the 2025 Sr PGA Championship at Congressional Country Club in Washington DC.
